DCRO 26- More Fun Comics (1936) #14 [R Story]

Story title: "Koth and the Seven, Part 2"

Cover Date: October 1936

By: Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster

DCRO Entry

And we're back to More Fun Comics for the continuation of the story. Actually, the first part came out at the same time the Methuselah Murders did, and there were about five mounts of space between that one and this one. Add that to the fact that most readers of More Fun Comics probably didn't even know there even was a first part, so it must've been really confusing being a comic book enjoyer back then.

And we're also back to the status quo: The story is in color, Doctor Occult is Doctor Occult, and (sadly) Siegel and Shuster are credited as Leger and Reuths.

So, the first part ended with Zator and Occult being surrounded by baddies, and now, the Seven came to their rescue!

And apparently, they are a bunch of ghosts? Oh, and one of them has a green head.

Next, the Seven, Zator, and Occult proceed to stare at Koth.

I'm not even joking... Sounds like a satire of pacifism, but apparently, it's some kind of "battle of minds" or something along those lines.

Koth loses (I mean, it was nine against one, it would've been a shame for the good guys otherwise), so the duo continues their trip and they finally get to the lair of The Seven.

Then, a member of The Seven does some exposition: He basically says that Koth is an "inhuman being" with a terrible hatred for our world (though the reason behind this is unknown) and the only way to stop him is with some random magical belt from Egypt because why the hell not.

Zator and Occult take off again, but not before the Doctor gets a cool sword and his new uniform...

Dude... No...

Once again, the monsters from the nether realm can't harm our heroes. Apparently, it's the symbol on their chests that's protecting them, but I mean... They were already fine last time.

Anyway, they eventually get to Egypt and Lois Lane cosplaying as Princess Leia in The Return of the Jedi warns Koth of their arrival:

And that's the end... for now.

Remember you can read this and every other Doctor Occult story from the Golden Age here.
So let's see the ratings.

Quality/Enjoymen: 3/5

Basically like last time. It's nice having color though, this story being less chilling and more mystical, but it's hard to understand what's going on sometimes. I don't mean the story is hard to follow, it's just that you have to pretty much go along with it. Like, they fend off Koth by staring at him, sure. He's in Egypt now, sure. We need some belt to defeat him, sure. That kind of stuff.

Historical/Cultural/Narrative Significance: 1/5

And that's it for today, but we still have three more parts to go. For now, thanks for reading and have a nice rest of your day!
